THE AWAKENING CONSCIENCE



The Awakening Conscience is an artwork to explore the first stage in artist _slow_crypto’s Fabrics of Reality project.





That first Fabric, Gallnut & Iron Cotton, is subtitled Consciousness and represents the moment of awareness - an awakening conscience - in the journey to positive social change.





In exploring consciousness, this study takes an existing work, William Holman Hunt’s 1853 painting of the same name (below), and evolves it by interpreting blockchain as a new form of conscience: code that keeps us accountable.




Our own spark to awakening might differ but the purpose is the same. Consciences inspire action. Which is precisely what the Fabrics of Reality are for.

My question for you now is:

WHY DO I LEAD YOU TO LOOK BEYOND WHAT IS HERE?*


This piece is composed of three individual artworks, each representing a key stage in blockchain development:

  • The base panel is Part 1, a Bitcoin NFT minted using Stacks to symbolise the foundations.





  • The centre panel is Part 2, an Ethereum Layer 1 NFT to symbolise versatility.





  • The top panel is Part 3, an Ethereum Layer 2 NFT minted using Optimism to symbolise scale.
